Yugong Reverse Circulation Drilling Rig Success Case - Gold Mine Exploration in Ghana

Construction Challenges & Client Pain Points

1. Complex Fractured Gold-Bearing Strata: The local Birimian formation consists of fractured metasedimentary rock, altered rock and hard quartz vein interbeds. The broken and unconsolidated strata easily cause hole collapse, blockage and core loss during conventional drilling, failing to meet mineral exploration standards.

2. Strict Geological Sampling Requirements: Gold resource evaluation requires complete and continuous rock core samples. Positive circulation mud drilling leads to serious core disturbance and low recovery rate, which cannot support accurate ore body boundary analysis and reserve calculation.

3. Severe Seasonal Construction Restrictions: The long rainy season brings muddy site conditions and unstable surface water. Conventional mud drilling consumes massive water resources and causes mud overflow and environmental pollution, failing local environmental protection regulations.

4. High Demand for Continuous Deep Drilling: Exploration boreholes require medium and deep drilling depth with frequent layer changes. Ordinary drilling equipment suffers from slow footage, severe bit abrasion and frequent downtime, seriously delaying exploration progress.

Equipment Selection & Solutions:

The project adopts our crawler-type air reverse circulation drilling rig, customized for Ghana’s fractured gold-bearing geology and tropical climate conditions, delivering efficient and eco-friendly mineral exploration solutions:

1. Adopts air reverse circulation drilling technology, using compressed air instead of mud for slag discharge. It requires no large water consumption, perfectly adapting to rainy season muddy sites and solving water shortage problems in remote mining areas.

2. Unique reverse circulation core sampling structure ensures concentrated rock sample transportation and complete core recovery. It effectively avoids sample disturbance and loss in fractured broken strata, fully meeting international mineral exploration sampling standards.

3. Equipped with high-torque power system and anti-stuck drilling protection module. It adapts to alternating soft soil, hard metamorphic rock and quartz vein layers, realizing stable penetration and effectively reducing bit wear and hole deviation.

4. Crawler cross-country chassis provides excellent terrain adaptability, ensuring flexible movement on rugged mountainous mining areas and rainy muddy ground, greatly improving overall construction accessibility.

Project Achievements

The reverse circulation drilling rig achieved stable continuous deep-hole drilling and one-time hole forming in this Ghana gold mine exploration project. All exploration boreholes maintained high core recovery rate with complete stratigraphic data, accurately reflecting local gold-bearing geological conditions and ore body distribution.

The whole construction process realized zero mud pollution, low energy consumption and low failure rate, fully complying with local mining environmental protection and safety specifications. High-efficiency drilling greatly shortened the geological exploration cycle and provided reliable core data support for the client’s gold resource reserve assessment and subsequent mining investment planning. With outstanding equipment stability and geological adaptation performance, our reverse circulation drilling rig has become the preferred exploration equipment for multiple mineral resource development projects in Africa.
